When you begin making your own natural perfume, it’s easy to stick with familiar oils. Lavender, citrus, florals. But if you want to create something that feels truly yours, exploring beyond the usual choices opens up a whole new level of scent creation.
I’m sharing three beautiful blends that include oils you may not usually think to use in perfume — like Copaiba, Black Spruce, and Black Pepper. These ingredients add depth, uniqueness, and presence to your perfume, while still feeling grounded and natural. You'll also learn how to choose the right lavender oil for perfume making, because not all lavender is created equal.
These blends are carefully crafted to feel wearable, elegant and just a little unexpected. Whether you’re looking for something fresh, floral, spicy or calming, these perfumes have a mood all of their own.

This blend is fresh, clear and balanced. Black Spruce brings clarity and a forest-like brightness, while lavender softens everything and adds a light floral lift. Black Pepper gives the blend a gentle warmth that lingers close to the skin. |
Tip: When using lavender in perfume, always check the source. Look for Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) grown in its native regions and tested for purity. Some lavenders on the market are hybrids or synthetics that don’t behave the same way in a blend. A high-quality lavender will blend smoothly and enhance your perfume, rather than overpowering it.

This blend feels soft and comforting. Copaiba adds a mellow smoothness that pairs beautifully with the freshness of orange. Sandalwood anchors the scent and gives it long-lasting depth. It’s perfect for everyday wear or quiet evenings at home. |

A blend for moments when you want to feel bold and sensual. Ylang Ylang is lush and expressive, balanced by the earthy steadiness of Cedarwood. Black Pepper adds a gentle vibrance that gives the whole blend character without being overpowering. Bergamot is a beautiful top note for this blend. |
Using essential oils alone doesn’t always create the perfume experience you might expect. The scent may fade quickly, or it might smell good in the bottle but not develop well on your skin.
That’s why it helps to understand the structure of a real perfume — how oils work together, how long they last and how to balance light and rich notes. You don’t need to be a professional perfumer. Just having the right guidance can make all the difference.
